Production is
typically designed for the use of concrete beds, unless a smooth soffit
is required [such as for hollow core slabs, etc.] in which case steel
beds have to be provided for. The beds are about 100 to
150 m (300 to 450 feet) long and feature rails on both sides for
the machinery to travel on. The number of beds depends on the scheduled
production capacity.
Without additional heating, the precast elements need approx. two
days for curing. However, with heating, the beds can be re-used
every day.
Usually, production
takes place indoors, i.e. in a production bay of approx. 150 to
180 m (400 to 550 feet) long and 15 to 20 m (50 to 70 feet) wide.
There are also facilities operating in the open. Sometimes, these
will be enclosed later by building a shed around it with building
elements from the own production.
